Where there appear to be a number of roses that would work well for a particular use; that is, where several roses appear to have characteristics of flower, habit, form, fragrance, hardiness, and so on that are essentially equivalent, I have usually decided to eliminate roses of inferior quality. 

There are, of course, an infinite number of possible ways of getting at design. The use of space is of central importance, but that is an issue more of landscape architecture than of gardening. We will assume here that most of the planting spaces have been defined. 

There is the primrose colored hybrid tea of deserved fame, Elina. It is a luminous and cheery addition to any garden that contains a fair patch of green. Come to think of it, it would even look good in a big pot against a pink stucco wall or a bougainvilla.
